RUGBY UNION. The Management Committee of the . Taihape Rugby Union met on Monday evening, when Mr. V. Nicholls occu- ] pied the. chair, in the unavoidable ab- t sence of the president (Air. J. Quirk). . The Hautapu Club wrote protesting against the Huia Club playing an unlegistcrcd player (Toby Bennett) in the match against Hautapu on April 29. The secretary reported that Mr. Whai Pine had interviewed him in regard to the matter, and explained that Toby Bennett had signed a registration form early in April, but the paper had been mislaid by Mr. Pine, who had been acting as secretary for the chib. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to forward the Utiku Club’s explanation on to the Hautapu Club. It was decided that the fixtures that were postponed last Saturday on [account of the wet weather, should be played next Saturday. Wanganui Match. After the club matches next Saturday, a probable representative team to play Wanganui at Taihape on May 20 will be selected, and this team will play Utiku at Utiku during the week-end, after which the final selection of the Taihape representative team will be made. The following were appointed to comprise the postponement committee: The president, secretary, Dr. Kronfeld, Mr. Schofield. In the event of unsettled weather the postponement, committee will decide at 10 a.m. on the Saturday whether fixtures are to be played. TAIHAPE HOCKEY. The following players will represent, rhe Athletic Hockey Club in their match with United, at Moawhango on Thursday:—Backs, G. Taylor, G. Booker; halves, J. Jones, A. Millar (capt.), J. Beiliss; forwards. H. Mitchell, R. Glenny, R. Spence, C. Murphy. Reserves: R. Rowson, J. Pearce, T. Bolton, ,M. Smith. All players are requested to meet, at the Post Office at 1 p.m. sharp. Any player unable to attend must advise the secretary on Wednesday night. R.S.A. The monthly meeting of the Taihape and District Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Friday evening, Dr. H. AL Hay. president, presiding over a satisfactory attendance. The following 15 new members were elected: Messrs. C. L. Mullany, J. Law, Dunford, L. A. P. Sherriff, H. H. Steedman, C. W. Ensor, D. A. Munro, A. G. Coleman, R. M. Thomas, F. K. Morton, H. A. Belk, J. J Ryan, G. B. Chrystall, A. R. Collier and R. W. Sutherland. The question as to whether the social committee should consist of six or nine members, was the subject of much discussion, the matter eventually being left in the hands of the executive committee. The chairman informed the meeting that he and the secretary and the following members of the association attended the annual re-union of the Mangaweka sub-branch: Messrs. C. W. Newport, L. E. Lyons, A. C. McLaren, J. McCullough. C. Lloyd, S. Page, J. Gorkill, J. Jenkins, T Macintyre, E. E. Smith, D. Rehia. J. Hereopa, J. Grange, J. Reardon. A financial statement in connection with the annual re-union and dinner of the Taihape R.S.A. was submitted by Mr. A. Fuller, chairman of the social committee. The statement showed that the expenses of the function amounted to £l4. He took the opportunity of thanking all who had helped to make the function a success, special mention being made of the efforts of Mr. L. E. Lyons, who was primarily responsible for the function being neiu. Mr. F. White had also rendered excellent service in the kitchen on the evening of the dinner. The meeting was of the opinion that the dinner had served a very useful purpose in that it had brought R.S.A. men together, and had also resulted in a number of ex-servicemen who were not members of the association, joining up. The following were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their efforts in connection with the function:— Messrs. L. E. Lyons, A. Fuller, F. Dash, A. H. IDenne. Mr. S. J. McDonnell reported upon the financial result of Poppy Day, and thanked the ladies, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides for selling poppies, and also expressed his appreciation of the services rendered by the Press in connection with “Poppy Day.” The following were accorded a vote of thanks for their services in connection with “Poppy Day”:—Mr S. J. McDonnell Mesdamcs Hay. Haydon, Mullany, Dash, McDonald, Smith, Price, Constable, Randolph. Thompson, Nicholls, Batt, Schofield, Miss B. McCormick, the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, Mr. W. R. Emerson (for the use of a shop), and the Press. The meeting discussed at length a Press report of a meeting of the Auckland R.S.A., at which it was decided to forw«..d a remit to the annual conference, urging the New Zealand R.S.A. to become a political body. The Taihapc R.S.A. members considered that the New Zealand R.S.A. should remain non-political and non-secrtar!an, and the following resolution was carried: — “That this branch of the R.S.A. entirely dissociates itself from any move intending to introduce political action, thus re-affirming the platform that the organisation should be nonpolitical and non-seertarian.” GENERAL NEWS. Prior to his departure to Hamilton, Mr A. Pcrrctt was fare welled by representatives of stock firms and local buyers, and presented with a beautiful gold-mounted fountain pen an 1 a silver jug. The presentation was made by Mr. S. Bowel! (manager of Dalgcty and Co.), who paid a high tribute to Mr. Perrett’s popularity and manv fine qualities and congratulated him on his well-deserved promotion. Associations between Mr. Perrett and those in the same line of business in Taihape had always been most cordial and pleasant, and he could assure Mr. Perrett that he would he greatly missed. Mr. Powell’s remarks were endorsed by other speakers. This present in addition to Mr. Powell who occupied the chair, wore the following:—Messrs. J. Beiliss

Stent vicar of Carterton, formerly vicar of Taihape, is on a visit io Taihapo. and took a prominent part at a Masonic installation ceremony last evening. Rev. Stent who is accompanied by Mrs. Stent, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Dymoek. Mr. and Mrs. Perrott and family left on Sunday to take up their residence in Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. M. Jarvis and family left last Thursday to reside in Otahuhu (Auckland).
