ALTON W.D.F.U. The annual meeting of the AltonKakaramea branch of the W.D.F.U. was hold in the Kakaramea Hall on Tuesday, Airs. Taylor presiding over an attendance of 35 members. The secretary reported a credit balance of £l4 Is. The president reported that the membership had risen to 45, despite the difficult times. Great benefit had been derived from the instructive demonstrations that bad been given during the year. The demonstrations were: Leatherwork (Aliss Tong), brass and copper work (Airs. Bull, Hawera), picture framing (Aliss G. Hall), paper flowers (Airs. Burnand), and mocassin making (Airs. Nicholls, Otakeho). A pattern day was also held, when patterns of clothing, moccasins, and soft toys were distributed. A dressmaking class was formed, which was of great benefit to the community, and several social functions were held, which were well patronised. The birthday party, euchre and dance, Christmas tree, and picnic at Patea beach proved very enjoyable. Visits were made to birthday parties at Hawera, Opunake, Alanaia, Otakeho. Elthain, Waverley, and Patea Institute. Two social afternoons were held in honour of Airs. P. Tong and Airs. Mitcalfc. One case of distress was helped, and £5 was sent to the community chest. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president commented on the success of the year’s work and thanked the members for their willing co-operation, aho the secretary and treasurer, Air. Allen (the auditor), and the Press. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president for her good work during the year. The election of officers resulted asfollows: —President, Airs. W. E. Taylor; vice-presidents, Airs. Hall and Airs. Gibbs; social committtee, Mesdames Gibbs, Baker. Illingworth, McAsey, Taylor, and Nicholson; hon. secretary, Airs. Nicholson; hon. treasurer, Airs. Metcalfe. BOWLING. GIBSON BANNER. Patea withstood a challenge for the Gibson Banner in a match with a rink from the Waverley Club, which was played on Wednesday at Patea. The following were the scores: — Waverley (challengers): Howie, S. Aiken, Alathieson, R. P. Palmer 11. Patea (defenders): Richards, J. Bourke, P. Bourke, Sheahan 20. Scown Cup. The following games in the Scown Cup scaled handicap singles were played during the past week on the Patea green:—Lamb 8 v. P. Bourke 2S; Pauling 7 v. White 33; Scown 24 v. Glenny 17; Glenny 15 v. Lamb 21; Richards 20 v. Lamb 15; Rev. W. H. Walton .17 v. White 15; Lamb 23 v. Pauling 13; Rev. W. H. Walton 25 v. Lamb 14; Rev. W. H. Walton IS v. Glenny 18.
