VEGETABLES FOR UNEMPLOYED COMMITTEE LOOKS AHEAD An appeal for seeds for kitchen gardens for the unemployed is made by the Wanganui Unemployment Committee. Those people who have seeds or plants to give are asked to leave them either at the Department of Labour in Trafalgar Place or at the Wan ganui Ladies’ Rest in St. Hill Street. At a meeting of the committee yes terday, Mr. L. W. Chisholm referred to the great success the gardens hsd been last year, and said that he would like to see the scheme extended next year. The vgetables were a wonder year. The vegetables were a wondcrthey would be of great benefit next winter. Adjutant Hawkes was of opinion that a scheme more in the nature of a small farm for vegetable growing should be started. He thought that the matter should be taken up immediately for the ground was better if it were broken up in the wintertimeMr. J. D. Crowley also considered that the scheme should be extended and moved that a sub-committee be set up to enquire whether further suitable plots for planting could be found. As a result a committee consisting of Messrs. A. E. Halligan, Crowley, E. W. F. Gohns, Rev. J. Paterson and Adjutant Hawkes were appointed.
