ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
SERVICE FOR SPORT Some interesting figures in connection with the work done by members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade while attending at sports and other gatherings on Saturday afternoons have just been published by th<‘ ; Chief Commissioner for New Zealand (Colonel G. Barclay). Returns were called for-for a particular Saturday afternoon during July, and tho information which has been sent in shows thr:t on tno day referred to 193 sports grounds wore staffed by Brigade members throughout the Dominion, 418 members of ambulance am! nursing divisions were on duty, ami 929 cases of first aid were attended to. Each year additional demands are made upon the Brigade for the supply of first-aiders, ami the increase shown in tho number of cases treated indicates that tho Brigade fully justifies its existence, there having been an increase of 261 cases treated when compared with the corresponding day last year. ' Although the great majority of tho cases are of a minor nature, there were some serious eases dealt with. In the Wanganui district on that Saturday there were 42 members on duty, and they attended to 98 cases, against 64 for the preceding year.
