THE “CUT” RESISTED
WAIMARINOJ4ELD UP FRESH ARTICLES UNSIGNED KATOA MEN’S INTENTIONS [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Juno 12. The steamer Waimarino is held up because tho cooks and stewards refuse to sign fresh articles introducing tho ten per cent, reduction in wages. This is the first resistance made to the “cut.” The Waimarino arrived at Wellington late on Thursday from Auckland, and the providore department then signed off. The Katoa, discharging coal from Newcastle, is to sigu fiesh articles soon. The men have stated that they will not accept the new rates. An application by tho union for a new award is to come before the Court on June 19, and an application for exemption from the ten per cent, cut already has been filed by the union secretary. The Cooks and Stewards’ Union secretary, Mr Kennedy, is indisposed, and no other information is available.
