PALMERSTON’S SPEEDWAY

NEW TRACK OPENED [ Per Press Association. ] PALMERSTON N-, Dec. 27. The Alanawatu Speedway was opened last evening before a crowd of 5000 people. There was exciting racing on the new track- The Australian trio—Hamburger, Durkin and Whittle—gave a splendid exhibition. The former covered his fastest mile in 1.36 3-5 from Whittle Durkin won the Australian points race, his fastest time being 1.37 3.5Tolley, of Feilding, won the Palmerston North second division handicap in 1.47 4-5. Appleyard (Wellington) won the Speedway scratch race from Hunger (Wanganui) in 1.39 1-5.
