AIR PILOT’S DEATH
THE MANGERE CRASH CORONIAL VERDICT [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest on Cyril Herbert Olson, aged 23, who crashed when flying on December 22 close to the Mangere aerodrome. Evidence was given that the machine had been tested and flown before Olsen flew it, and was in perfect order; also that the controls were examined after tho crash and found to bo intact. Deceased’s log-book contained nn entrysaying that on April 23, 1930, he felt groggy after doing spins and loops with another pilot. Mr R. J. Copley, the Aero Club’s ground engineer, expressed th? view that Olson had fallen forward to the extent of his safety belt with the control stick in his hand. The forward pressure of the stick would maintain the steep angle of dive noticed by ob servers. The Coroner said that it seemed that Olsen lost control through nn unknown reason. Ho found that the actual cause of death was shock following injuries.
