CONDITIONS IN LONDON. > LONDON, Dec. 26. J’ank holiday was one of the wettest and uncomfortable iu the memory of Londoners and the coldest Borine Day for 24 years. The majority preferred to spend the day at home by the fireside. Hain spoilt football and horse racing. Tho highroads which are usually crowded with motorists, were relatively deserted, though the police patrols held a big muster in anticipation of the Act operating on Thursday, Two hundred driving motor sidevars, tested speedometers, and chased imaginary reckless drivers, some patrol side cars attaining seventy miles per hour. The theatres and cinemas were poorly attended, but concerts and entertainments in hospitals were carried out including one at St. Mary’s, Paddington, where Queen Mary sent a special present to each child patient. The Queen and Prince of Wales also sent special gifts to the Children’s Hospita in Great Ormond Street.
