WANT TO KNOW WHY

MR. McBRINE’S ACTION. FELLOW WORKERS CRITICAL. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Nov. 18. There was an attendance of between 200 and 300 at a special meeting of members of the Auckland WatersideWorkers’ Union. The meeting was called for the purpose of requesting the president of the Union, Mr Oscar MeBrine, to explain why he had allowed himself to be nominated for a seat on the Unemployment Board about to bo

set up. The Union, which is affiliated to the Alliance of Labour, had, in common with other organisations associated with the Alliance, decided to take no part in the setting up of the board, on the grounds that the workers were not to select their own representatives on that board. It was contended that Mr Mcßrine had allowed his name to go forward for selection contrary to the wishes of his union. The meeting lasted for half an hour, and as no finality had been reached, proceedings were adjourned. No details of proceedings were made available for publication.
