RATA DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. (Special “Chronicle” Service.) The Rata Rifle Club held its annual shoot under service conditions for Sir Heaton Rhodes’ Cup. McDonald 94 In the shoot-off for Mr R. J. Smith’s trophy, G. Follett proved an easy .winner. MARTON ATHLETIC CLUB. At a meeting of the committee of the Marton Athletic Club on Wednesday evening, it was decided to hold evening sports on the Marton Park on Wednesday, December 19, commencing at 6.30 o’clock. The following programme was approved:— Cycling. —Half mile, first 30s; second 10s. One Mile: First £2, second 15s. Two miles: First £2 10s; second £l. Three miles: First £2; second 15s. Pedestrian Events (open). —100 yards maiden. 100 yards. 22 yards, 440 yards, 880 yards, one mile, and boys’ walking lace. CRICKET. On the tennis courts on Thursday evening a buttons match was played between S. A. Go ver and K. A. Williams (holders) and R- C. Ball and G. Porter (challengers), the holders winning by 9 to 8. PERSONAL. A Gazette notice states that the N.Z. Long and Efficient Service Medal has been warded the Rev. R. H. Catherwood, of Turakina, chaplain 2nd Class N.Z. Chaplains’ Department.
