ON THE MOVE

HOLIDAY TRAFFIC SOUTH ISLAND POPULAR ►Summer holiday-makers arc beginning to make their appearance in W anganui, but this seasonal traffic will not commence in earnest until Decembei 14, the day on which the first excursion tickets will be issued for travel by rail. Al any inquiries are being made daily at the railway station and at the Government Tourist Bureau. ►South Island tourist resorts are this year greatly favoured by Wanganui noliday-makers, the West Coast and Alilford bound making appeal to many. Queenstown, {Stewart Island and Lake he Anau are also coming in for sond support, practically all the accommodation on JStewart Island having been booked up already. The Alilford Track walk, considered one of x the finest in the world, will attract larger numbers than usual. There is every evidence of Rotorua maintaning its position this season as the most popular resort, but strangely enough, Wanganui bookings arc not numerous. One of the outstanding features of the buckings this season is the pronounced desire on the part of nearly all travellers io to get as far away from their homes as possible* The vogue of the motor cr.r holiday, may account for this; it is becoming increasingly popular, and with secondhand cars selling cheaply, there will be more motor vehicles on the road this summer than ever. The Tongariro National Park will, no doubt be one of the most popular resorts for motorists. Reports from Taupo and Rotorua ot excellent trout-fishing will attract a large number of Wanganui sportsmen to the district. Alany of them intend to take their families with them, and oamp near the lakes and streams. Altogether, the season promises to be a record one as far as travel is concerned and the numbers of New Zealanders on the move will be swelled by large numbers of visitors from all parts of the world.
