SHANTUNG TROOPS’ DESPERATE FIGHT (By Telegraph—Per Press Asm-Copyright 1 [Australian Press Assn.-United Service.] Received Sept. Id, 9 p.m. SHANGHAI, Sept. 14. Electrifind barbed wire was, for tbe first time in tbe history of Chinese warfare, used by the retreating Chihli and Shantung forces in a desperate effort to stem the advance of tbe Nationalists in the Leiachow district. Current was drawn from the Leiachow coal mines. Orders have been issued by the Nationalist commanders to exterminate the Shantungese and show no quarter. Fighting is reported to be unusually severe. ° The Northern commander Wang-chi, one of the highest officers in the Shantung army, was killed in battle while unsuccessfully defending Lciehuang. General Chang Chung Chang, erstwhile military governor of Shantung and supreme commander of the rebel Shantung forces, is reported to be heading for the coast in readiness for flight to the neutral port of Dairen.
