O’Cunuell declared:— “Ireland was not and never can be a daughter of England. Do not misunderstand me when I say that Ireland will never regand England as the Mother Country. She is herself a mother country. We are friends andour friendship will continue firm, as long as the present status is recognised.” Six hundred attended the dinner.
