TWO DRINKS
BUT JUST ENOUGH MOTORIST FINED. i, Per Preet Aasoclaflon. J AUCKLAND, June 24. Clive Horace Parr, aged 28, was fined £25 by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court on Saturday for being intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Karangahaph Road late yesterday afternoon. Sub-Inspector McCarthy stated that while passing a vehicle on the right accused had gone so near the edge of the footpath that he had knocked over a woman who was standing on the kerb waiting for a tram. The woman had not been seriously injured, and had been sent to her home. Accused had got out of his car and had walked back and spoken to her. He returned to his car and was driving away when he was stopped and asked for his license. It was then noticed that he was intoxicated.
Counsel for the defence said accused had yesterday afternoon motored in from Kawhia and had had only two drinks. He was on his way to Avondale when the accident happened. Parr was a reading contractor working in the neighbourhood of Kawhia and had to drive a motor lorry in the course of his work.
The Magistrate said he would take the latter fact into consideration and not cancel accused’s license. He warned him not to come before the Court a second time, and to leave drink alone. Accused was allowed a week to
