ELECTORAL BOUNDARIES
CHANGES THIS ELECTION PATEA ENCROACHES ON EGMONT Parliamentary electors in the Palea electorate —bigger this year both as to area and to the number exercising the franchise through the alteration or the boundaries —are commencing to bestir themselves in view of the approaching election, and an increasing number or applications for enrolment have been received by the registrar. There have been 1213 names taken off the rolls through death or transfer since the last election and 523 have notified changes in address.
Whereas at the last election Palea had 14,956 voters, the number for the coming poll will be 17,265 of which 4.501 will be urban and 12,764 country voters.
The Palea boundary has been extended on the northern and western sides to take in a big area of Jur.il and a few Rectors from both the Egmont and Stratford electorate which, in turn, hav e benefited to the north by increases at the expense of t.ie Taranaki and Waitomo electorates. The boundary for Patea, as before goes up Ketemarae Moad from the sea leaving the Ohawc aud Normanby townships still within the Egmont electorate. After skirting the Normanby boundary however the first aud most drastic alteration commences, for, instead of going down the Austin Road and across country along the Hawera side of Ohangai Road hmO leaving Ararata, Meremere and part of Ohangai in the Egmont eelctoratc, the new line proceeds northwards up the railway line to the Onewhaia Road on to the Wain gon goro River to skirt the eastern and southern boundaries of Eltham borough and thence eastward across country through the Ngaere swamp to enclose within the Patea district for the first time the Man gamin gi Valley, Omona, Rotokara, and the Ngaere.
At a point a few miles from the Wanganui River the old boundary is resumed as before down the Wanganui River to skirt the northern boundary of Wanganui city.
