ONE-MAN CARS

“SUCCESS” IN WANGANUI NAPIER INSPECTOR S FANCY With a view to cutting down running expenses the Napier Borough Council is considering the introduction of one-man cars, on the Napier tram service. To obtain an insight into the working of the one-man system, Mr J. P. Woodson, power-house superintendent at Napier, visited Wanganui and New Plymouth. He reported to a meeting of the Council that the cars in both places gave satisfaction. Perhaps this is just another case of “what do th.’v know of England who only England know?” Most Wanganui residents’ knowledge of one-man cans does not extend beyond what they have read in the papers of the savings anticipated when the first of the converted vehicles at length emerges from the workshops.
