COOKS’ WAGES
SHEARERS COMPLAIN ACTION AGAINST MB LYSNAR. [ Per Press Association. ] GISBORNE, March 1. An application to interpret ihe shearers’ award with regard to the wages of cooks was made before Mr E. C. Lcvvey, S.AI., by the East Coast Shearers’ Union in an action against William Douglas Lysnar, AI.P. The facts were not in dispute. Mr Lysnar for 20 years had employed only one cook for shearers. This year two cooks appeared on the scene. Mr Lysnar had offered one woman £4 a week. This was refused. There wore only eight shearers working at the timet, and contended that it was absurd to say that one cook could not cook for more than 12 men.
The Magistrate held that more thai £4 a week should have been paid, bu as the union had failed to carry m the preliminaries the information woui' bo dismissed.
