PERSONAL AND GENERAL. [ Special “ Chronicle ” Service ] Mr and Mrs J. Glenn have returned to Wanganui. Miss O’Brien has returned from the Palmerston Forth hospital. The Maugaweka School Committee, after giving the new policy of opening the school half an hour later, has now returned to the old time, as no better results were obtained, and the school now opens, as formerly, at 9 a.m. Miss Sewell, Anglican Sunday School organiser, gave an interesting lecture on Sunday School work and methods of teaching last week, when there was a good attendance. A special missionary service was also conducted in the church by the Rev. W. Langston. The fortnightly meeting of the LO.OJF.M.U. was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The principal business was the election of officers for the ensuing term, whlich resulted as follows: Bro. P. Murphy, GJkL; Bro. C. Warrilow, N.G.; Bro. L. Mahoney, V.G.; Bro. R. Hamilton, F.S. These are to be installed at the next meeting to be held in December. The meeting terminated with a very enjoyable supper. A committee meeting of the Mangasveka Scout Troop was held in the Scout room on Friday evening, when a fail attendance was presided over by Mr H. Johnston. The Rev. W. Langston accepted the position of Scoutmaster. After some discusdion, it was decided to hold the annual camp at Messrs W. A. and W. L. Bailey’s property from January 2 to January 12. The secretary, Mr G. Cowan, reported that after paying expenses, the dance held this month cleared £4 18s, which had. been added to the Scout fund. It was decided to hold another meeting on December 9 to discuss affairs in connection with the camp. The bowling club has commenced to play in earnest. During the week-end the first heat for the Walker gold buttons was played, whei 8. Dickenson and 1). Watkins defeated. B. Bunker and J. Mclntosh, 19 —17. Entries for th e club championship, the trophy for which is the Slade Cup, close at the end of December. Ladder matches have started on the tennis court. F. E. Wilson defeated R. Young, 6 —4 and D. Barrell, 6—5; Mrs Watson defeated Miss Johnstone, 6—3.
