OHAKUNE
MOTOR ACCIDENTS. [ Special “ Chronicle ” Service ] A collision between a motor-car and i a lorry occurred on Sunday at 10.30 p.m. on the Ohakune —Raetihi road near the cheese factory corner. The car was being driven by G. Rockhouse and was owned by Mrs R. J. Lyttle, of Ohakune and the motor-lorry belonged to Messrs Chen Quing and Co. of Raetihi. The night was dark and owing to the heavy rain the visibility was not good. The car struck the lorry on the froht wheel and the impact evidently locked the steering gear of the car, as it somersaulted twice on the road, and the passengers were thrown out. At the time of the occurrence there were five passengers and a child, all, [ with the exception of Mrs Lyttle, escaping injury. Mrs Lyttle had a collarbone broken. She was removed to her residence and medical assistance was sought. In the early hours of Monday morning a collision occurred on the Raetihi Ohakune Road in the vicinity of Plunket’s mill, between two motor cars owned by Mr W. Kayser and Mr Johnsen. In rounding a bend of the road Johnsen’s car struck Kayser’s with a great deal of pace and the impact caused the former’s car to be forced through a fence on the side of the road. Fortunately no personal injuries were received. Both cars were damaged. BOWLING. Fine weather prevailed over the week-end and the Ohaiune Club’s green attracted one of the largest gatherings seen here this season. Another game for the Illingworth ferns was played when the previous holders, Fergussou and Eaton won from Cosford and Lightham by a margin of 15 points. CRICKET A match between Rangatana B and Ohakune cricket clubs was played at Rangataua in fine weather over the week-end. Ohakune won their fourth match of the season in defeating Rangataua, the latter scoring 118 in the two innings. Ohakune scored 149 and had 7 wickets to spare in the second innings. The players displayed a good sporting spirit and a most enjoyable time was spent. Pulman, Hislop and Forster were the best batsmen of the day in the Rangataua eleven, each contributing a score of over 20 runs. Hislop put up the best bowling by taking three wickets for 11 runs. North, with 38 runs was the best batsman for Ohakune; Forster following with 28 runs not out. In the first innings North took six wickets for 13 runs, Goldfinch coming next in the second innings with four wickets for 15 runs.
