PARAPARA ROAD

COMPLETION IN SIGHT GAZETTE NOTICE SHORTLY After agitations extending over a period of about 30 years, present indications are that the Parapara Road metalling work will be completed in a few months’ time. Recently a Wanganui deputation waited on the Minister of Public Works (Hon. K. S. Williams) at Wellington, and as a result the Minister has written Mr W. A. Veitch, M.P., indicating that the provisions of the Public Works Act, notifying the setting up of a commission to attend to the work would be gazetted shortly. Satisfaction at the present position was expressed last evening by the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. Mr John Morrison referred to the work done on the Wangaehu Valley Road. He said he was in favour of that road, but he was not in favour of activity there side-tracking the work on the Parapara. The Wangaehu Valley Road would never be a highways road as tho term was understood. He was satisfied that in the Parapara Road Wanganui had the shortest route to the. National Park, and from there they were on the main road to Taupo, Wairakie and Rotorua. He was of the opinion that the work on the Parapara would be done at once. The Wanganui County Council was prepared to do its share immediately.
