The Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers) and Mrs Rogers have returned to Wanganui from a holiday at Rotorua.
The Rev. Father McGrath, Marist Missioner, formerly of Wanganui is at present conducting a mission in Taihape.
The visitors at the Rotary Club yesterday included Messrs R. Wedderspoon, J. Kerwin, T. C.C. Scott, T. Cooper, and E. C. Ward (Patea).
Mr W. J. Gilberd, who has been elected to the executive of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce, last evening received the congratulations of the Wanganui Chamber.
Mr F. G. Craig, of the Stationmaster’s office, Wanganui, will leave for Wellington next week to take up a position as passenger agent under tho new scheme inaugurated by the Railway Department.
Arrivals yesterday at the Rutland Hotel were Miss L. Walsh (Auckland), Messrs J. B. Maxted, H. Levy, E. M. Pirie, Mr and Mrs J.Moss (Wellington), Mr E. J. Denys (Hawera) and Mr A. B. Hodgson (Palmerston North).
A large deputation headed by Mr A. J. Mackay waited on Mr A. J. Murdoch, of Whangarei, on Saturday evening, with a request that he should allow himself to be nominated for the Marsden seat at the forthcoming election. Mr Murdoch intimated that he was agreeable to stand. Mr Murdoch was Marsden’s representative from 1*922 to 1925-

The death occurred on Sunday of William Couston, a very old identity of Dunedin, at the age of 90 years. Shortly after the morning service started at First Church, deceased was carried to the vestry, where he expired in a few minutes. He had been in business in Dunedin for many years as a retail ironmonger, andi personally supervised the management of the business until his death. He is survived by a widow, two sons, and four daughters. He was an elder in First Church.
