OBITUARY
MRS. J. G. SHARPE OLD SETTLED PASSES Mrs J. G. Sharpe, one of Wanganui’s oldest settlers, died at her residence, St. John’s Hill yesterday morning. Mrs Sharpe was born in Kent nearly SO years ago and when she was a little girl camo to New Zealand with her parents (Mr and Mrs W. Foreman). They settled in Taranaki during the troublous times of tho early settlement when disputes .with the natives over land purchases placed the settlers’ lives in great jeopardy. From Taranaki she came to Wanganui where she was married to Mr Sharpe 60 years ago. Mr Sharpe was one of the band of early settlers who took a noble part in the founding of this Dominion and she shared the trials of old colonial life. In common with Mr Sharpe, she took a prominent part in the social well-be-ing of the community, particularly in connection with Trinity Church activities, of which institution she was a beloved member. Mrs Sharpe leaves the following members of her family to mourn their loss: —Mrs W. Paul (Pukeatua, Rotorua), Mrs O. Watkins (Sydney), Mrs R. Hope (Petone), Miss Ethel Sharpe (Wanganui), Mr R. C. Sharpe (Wanganui), Mr J. G. Sharpe, junr. (Pukeatua), and Mr C. J. Sharpe (Wanganui).
