THREE SHOTS

THIEF FIRED AT CHASE AT PARRAMATTA. SYDNEY, April 26. Caught in one of the rooms at a hotel at Paramatta, at 3 a.m. a thief struggled with one of the boarders and knocked him out. Dashing outside, he ran, but was chased by a constable. The constable fired three shots at the man, who is believed to have been hit by one of them on the right leg. However, ho was able to get over a fence and escape. • The thief probably climbed a pole to th* balcony of the hotel and entered the room occupied by Joseph Gorman. He took money from clothing, and then passed on to the room occupied by Alexander Blackadder. Here be obtained £6, but while moving about the room he disturbed the occupier who jumped out of bed. A fierce struggle in the dark followed, and by chance the thief landed ». heavy blow on the boarder and knocked him senseless. The noise caused by the struggle aroused other occupants, but before they could reach the room the thief ran to the balcony, and sliding down one of the supports, ran along the street. The alarm was given by boarders who called out, and Constable Walkam, who happened to be close to the hotel, gave chase for nearly a quarter of a mile. The policeman is certain that one of the shots struck the man’s right leg.
