Following an argument between three constables and a number of men, mostly Italians, at North Melbourne, a fight ensued in which one of the constables, Clare, was fatally stabbed in the groin. An Italian. Dominic Codello. wa? arrested after a chase, and charged with murder. A blood-stained pocket knife was found near the scene of the fight.
