EXCITEMENT IN AUCKLAND
UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC CABLE FUSES FIRE BENEATH THE PAVEMENT [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 21. The fusing of an underground electric cable, followed by two explosions, caused excitement in Queen Street at a busy hour to-night. The fusing wus followed by a fire beneath the pavement. Giris in adjacent shops, thinking the building was on fire, broke a plate glass window and made their escape with a few cuts. All suffered from shock. The electric staff soon repaired the damage.
