BRITISH COAL CRISIS

POSSIBLE INDUSTRIAL UPHEAVAL LONDON, July 22. Sir W. Mitchell Thomson attended today’s meeting as chairman of the new Government Committee to organise the public service in the event of industrial trouble. The coal-owners have written to the Miners’ Executive suggesting a conference to clear up the misunderstanding over the miners’ demand for the withdrawal of the owners’ proposals as a preliminary condition to the re-opening of negotiations. The Miners’ Executive decided to inform the coal-owners that they adhered to their decision to meet the coal-own-ers in open conference if and when the owners’ proposals wore withdrawn.
