A GRAVE WARNING

JAPANESE PERIL AGAIN. ARCHDEACON AND THE PACIFIC. MONTREAL. July 21. “The money-mad people of the United States to-day are sitting on the edge of a volcano. They do not know it, but within tho next three or four years trouble will develop in the Pacific between the United States and Japan, and what the end will be cannot be foreseen. The centre of gravity of the world is moving to the Pacific, and there the problems of the world must be faced in the future. The sooner we of the British Empire recognise it. the better for ourselves and for the rest of the world.” These and other equally startling statements were made by the Rev. Dore Bryant, Archdeacon of Monara, who will sail or July 22 for a tour of Britain, which is expected to last three months. He will espouse the cause of emigration from Britain to Australia, and expects to address meetings while in England. He also said that\Japan, though aggressive now, w’ill grow still more so, and people of the Empire must realise that the problem of the world to-day is the problem of the Pacific. “No matter how we look at it in Australia,” said Mr Bryant, “wo realise that Japan could pour two or three million highly-trained soldiers into Australia before we could get assistance from the nearest British fleet units. That is one reason why we display such interest in the question of Imperial naval aid, and why we have provided some vessels of our own to as- ' gist in our own defence. 1 “I have been particularly astonished I and amazed at the laxity of the United I States in regard to tho Pacific Problem. ; There are .135,000 Japanese in the j Hawaiian Islands, almost as many I Chinese and Koreans and Filipinos, i who would doubtless side with Japan 'in the event of difficulty. There should I bo close inter-communication between | tho different parts of the Empire. The bonds shouhi be strengthened by every means possible. “There is heavy work ahead. Japan believes she has a grudge, that she has been insulted through the. American immigration restrictions. Some day will come a war of revenge. It is amazing to me that the people of the United States do not realise this.”
