ATHLETICS
HARRIER CLUB Great interest is being shown in today’s cross-country race. Unfortunately there is a big cross-country event on in Wellington to-day, which prevents the majority of the Wellington clubs participating but the Hutt Harrier Club is sending a team up. The Hutt Harrier Club is one of the leading Wellington clubs and several wellknown runners are members of it so that the local club will be up against a stiff proposition and some good finishes should be witnessed. G. Gibbons, of Marton, is running for the local club, and after his performance against Rose twelve months ago should be well in front to-day. It is also expected that Newton will be the cause of the race being run in very fast time if anybody is going to beat him. The start will be from the main entrance of the Show grounds and from there about three miles will be run across country before entering the racecourse again and completing the final mile round the course.
The race is to commence at 2.45 sharp so all competitors are asked to be along early and ready to start at 2.45.
