RAETIHI NOTES
RAETIHI BOROUGH COUNCIL. DEPUTATIONS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the last meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council, Mr T. Shout waited on the council, on behalf of residents of Ward and Queen Streets in respect to certain proposed (drainage works which would eventually cross the Parapara read and drain into the Makoti ku stream. H-> wanted to know if the council was in any way prepared to assist and produced a rougu sketch, of the proposed scheme. The chairman said the engineer <onsidered the council would benefit to a certain extent by this drainage scheme, and the Works Committee recommended assisting the ratepayers to the extent of £lO. Mr Shout said he would convey that to the ratepayers, but at present he could not say whether they would go on with the scheme. He thanked the council for the attention they had given the matter and withdrew. MOUNT VIEW ROAD. Four- ratepayers of Mount View Road waited on the council, and Mr J. 'lhoinas, acting as spokesman, asked the councillors if they would use their endeavours to push on the work of connecting up .Mount View Road with Ballance (Street. At present the Hukaroa road, leading to Mount View road, was in a deplorable state and residents had to cross a paddock in order to get to their homes. The tradesmen, too, had difficulty in reaching their various customers. The chairman said that the loan of £6OO which was recently carried provided for the whole work. A member of the deputation asked if now the loan was carried there would be any trouble in getting the money. The Mayor: “ 1 do not expect there will be.” He also promised that the application for the loan money would be immediately sent in, and arrangements tor the purchase of the land gone on with. If it could not be bought at a reasonable price it would be taken under the Public V\ orks Act. The lead could not be finished this wdnter, but he promised the ratepayers that every endeavour would be made to have it completed this summer, and next winter they would experience no difficulty in getting to town by a good load FOOTBALL.
