WANGANUI COMPETITIONS

AN ATTRACTIVE SYLLABUS. At a meeting of the Wanganui Competitions Society held this week Mr C. H. Warden, chairman, announced that the syllabus was now in circulation, and that next week the book of words would be available on application. The syllabus shows a most attractive number of competitions, and already great interest has been aroused in the generai public. There is every indication of large entries for tha choir contests, and in all Classes for school children. It is intended to make a special feature of the choir contests, and they will probably be held on a night set apart for the purpose. Mr H. Temple White, of Wellington, has been appointed judge of the vocal and instrumental Items. Mr John Rigg, Christchurch, will judge tha elocution and literary contributions, Miss M. A. Bodley, Auckland, will judge the fancy dancing, and Mr Harold Whittle, Wellington, will act as official pianist. A special general meeting of the society will be held shortly to discuss the motion brought forward byMr G. Spillane: "That the annual meeting of the Competitions Society be held prior to November 30 in each year." The object of tha motion is to enable the society to select Its test pieces well in advance of the competitions, so that . they will arrive in New Zealand in plenty oi time.
