THE DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
TO BE INTERNATIONAL. DUNEDIN, May 16. At a largo meeting of the Exhibition Provisional Committee to-night, it was decided by a large majority that the exhibition be international in character, instead of imperial, and that it be called the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition. It was also decided to make a canvass with the object of raising £20,000 sterling at once, so as to enable registration of a company, tho capital to be later increased to £lOO,OOO. A good deal of discussion took place in regard to the site. Tho Sites Committee unanimously recommended that the Lake Logan area of 65 acres be selected. The Harbour Board engineer raised a point that there would be difficulty in the way of getting reclamation work ready in time, the recent floods having altered the position. If this site were selected, it would be necessary
to put more work into the preparation of the area than was at first anticipated. It was finally decided to adjourn the meeting for a fortnight to enable the engineer to submit a further report. CANTERBURY NOT TO ASSIST. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 16. At a meeting of the executive of the Industrial Association to-night., the following motion "was carried:— That the Canterbury association adhere to the promise made to a meeting ot the industrial corporation, that support of the association should be accorded to the Dunedin Exhibition, provided it was an Imperial Exhibition, but that if the Dunedin Exhibition Committee decided to go on with an International Exhibition, the Canterbury Association could promise it no support whatever. One member said the international idea was being engineered for the reason that there was money in it for some people.
