BRIDE IN POORHOUSE
GROOM OUT OF WORK Having to spend her wedding night in a casual ward was the unpleasant experience of a young woman now in Romford Poor Law Institution, says a Scottish paper. It was well Known to her ward companions that she had a lover outside, a clerk, who was anxious to marry her, but was out of work. A few days ago the girl smilingly announced that the happy event was coming off that day, hut she kept the news a secret from the officials, and took her discharge in the ordinary way. She met her lover, and the wedding was performed at Stratford. The young man, however, was still out of work, and. having no home to take his bride to, sent her back to Romford. She arrived too late to go to her old quarters, and had no alternative but to enter the casual ward. As soon as the master had learnt what had happened, which was the next morning, he had bride transferred to more congenial quarters. She is now patiently waiting the time when she will be able to leave for her own home.
