SECONDARY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Afay 17. At the Secondary Schools Association, the following remits were passed : That school Reason tickets and free school tickets be made available for the duration of each school term instead of, as at present, for three months. That in the opinion of this association the grant made to university scholarship holders should be increased, as acholaxTship students are sometimes prevented by lack of funds from following preferred courses at the university.
That the Education Department be requested to make arrangements whereby secondary school teachers, especially of science subjects, may attend refresher courses at a university. That the Secondary Schools Association direct the attention of the Senate to the inconvenience caused to individuals and to schools by the lateness of the issue of marks in university examinartions, and requests that marks be issued as soon as possible. That the Minister be asked to take the necessary steps to bring about an early application of the accrediting system in lieu of matriculation examination. That in the opinion of this association candidates taking Latin and no other foreign entrance scholarship examination should not suffer the penalty at present imposed of being unable to choose subjects capable of giving maximum marks. That questions on history and geography be removed from the English syllabus for matriculatoon. That the syllabus of work in Latin and French for matriculation be made more definite. That the University Senate be again asked to arrange that the notification card sent to candidaes who have gained partial matriculation shall also state the name of the subject in which the candidate has failed.
