It is not generally known that the referee in to-morrow’s big* sculling contest has authority to warn either sculler should ho be leading into danger, the start shall be bv mutual consein unless they fail to move off the mark within twenty minutes, in which case the referee will start the race, these interesting facts constitute a few of the many fine attractions contained in the sculling record book and souvenir whic h is being issued in connection with Tuesday’s race between Hadfield ano Paddon.

I he* history of the sculling championship of tlu- world makes very entertaining reading, dealing a s it does from the time E. Irickett liecame the first recognised champion, right down to the i Hadfield-Arnst race of Januaiy last. Other leading features arc splendid photographs of Hadfield and Paddon, which are accompanied by a brief survey of their line sculling careers; photographs of past holders of the title: rules governing the contests; an excellent plan of the course, the various stages of the river being cleat ly shown : records of all the big races from as far back as 1831 ; and last but by no means least, three lull pages of all sorts of sporting records—billiards, cricket, horse racing, athletics, motor and cycling racing, swimming, etc., together with i.he names of the present-day holders of all world’s championship titles.

The sculling record Iwok and souvenir is such that it really cannot be done without by all those interested in tomorrow’s race. Every jx>ssessor of the book can by reading the contents of the 32 pages, quite easily constitute himself an authority on sculling, and any other sport. It is wonderful value for sixpence, the modest price asked. Tlie sculling record book and souvenir can bo obtained at all booksellers, or from tho “Chionicle” office up till mid-day to-day.
