SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY. MEMORIAL SERVICE IN COOK’, GARDENS,

Tuesday, April 25th, will be the seventh anniversary of the historic landing at Anzac. and it will mark the fourth Anzac Day since the signing of Peace. Legislation has now been passed observing the day as la Sunday. Throughout the Dominion, and in Australia, memorial services will be held in commemoration of the men who fell. In Wanganui the service will be conducted by the Ministers’ Association in Cook's Gardens, provided the weather Is fine. Arrangements are being made to oifen the Opera House ff the wea lher is unsuitable. A procession Including returned soldiers. Territorials, and Cadets will march, via I the Avenue and Guyton Streets to I Cook’s Gardens. The returned soldiers, the Que»n Alexandra Band, | the Salvation Army Band, and the Queen’s Park buglers, will parade fat the R.S.A. Club, St. Hill Street, fat 2 o'clock sharp, and will march | via St. Hill and Ridgway Streets to Jbe Avenue. At the Post Office thev will be joined by the Territorials i headed by the Garrison Band, and | l:y the two local Cadet Companies escorted by the Wanganui Pipe Hand | Tho parade will then march via th. Avenue and Guyton Street to Cook'! Gardens. Red Poppies win be wort in memory of the dead. The R.S.A. I will carry a wreath of poppies at the head of the column. The Queen i Alexandra Band, by special request, will play the old marches which were known so well between 1914 and 1918. The service will be conduct ed on similar lines to the one held on the last occasion. The Presidenof the R S. A. (Mr W. H, Cunning ham) will occupy the chair, and th< ministers officiating will be. Rev W. Grigg. Pastor Noble, Archdeacot Reeve. Rev. D. Campbell, and Captain MacKenzle. At the opening th< massed bands win play the Nations Anthem. The hymns will be accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and the boys from Queen's Park School will play the “Last Post. PROGRAMMES. Programmes containing the order of services have been printed. These Will be on sale on “Poppv Dav” a r threepence each, the funds derived to be devoted to the same object as those raised under the Poppy scheme. The late Colonel McCrae’s poem bearing reference to t.he Slanders Poppy has been printed off the outer cover, surrounded by a poppy design. The inner pages contain the order of service and on the lav page appears a poem by Mr W. Ash well specially composed for the oc casion.
