CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 1.

The snow cleared ui> shortly after >.\ o'clock, when fully two inches of >snow had fallen. The snow was followed by rain, with intermittent snowshowers. The sudden change in the weather conditions wilt detrimentally affect the many out-door gatherings arranged in connection with H.M.S. 'New Zealand's visit. ■

Very little information is obtain^ able from country districts to-night; but it is understood the snowfall is heavy.
