MELBOURNE, October 10 Kris Jensen has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
Jensen is a Russian who was arrested on a charge of deserting from the steamer Port Kembla on September 12. He joined the liner as a greaser, and worked aboard until the last moment before the vessel sailed.
MELBOUENE, October 10. Tlw State ' Budget shows the year's revenue to have been ,£11,461,030, which, is ,£39,000 less than the expenditure. No I new taxation is proposed. Mr Watt proposes wider experiments with the Balsillie rain-inaking, installation at Hopetoun and in the 'Riverina SYDNEY, October 10. An official, estimate shows that the area under wheat in the State is 3,812,500 acres, a decrease of 697,692 acres compared with la6t year. ■ - . • MELBOURNE, October 10. Owing to the trouble with the seamen at Melbourne the inter-State shipping, of 411; states has been' rendered idle, and all sailings are cancelled. The wharf labourers have decided not to resume unless under pre-strike conditions.
