WANGANUI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Wanganui Defence Riffe Club was held on luesday evening, Captain J. G. Swan presiding over a large attendance of members. '

Annual Report.—The annual report, which was adopted, stated that the club had had a most successful year, and , despite the shortage of rifles the mem. 'hers numbered 78.- The balance-sheet showed the finances of the club to be on a sound footing. This augured well tor the future success of the club. The following members joined the Expeditionary Forces during the year : Riflemen T. Hammond, W. Murtno andW. bait. Riflemen H. Lloyd and H. Quarterman are going into camp this month Ihese members -bring'the total of the club members who have joined the forces U p to 24. The record of shooting during the1 past year had been very good. The Challenge Cup was won this year hy Rifleman T. Hammond, and will be held by him for 12 months. The thanks of the club are due to all those who. kindly donated trophies or ga,*o donations to the club's funds during the year. A word of thanks is also due to C. Kruse, the nandicapper, and Mr \V.-Porteous. the club's marker in chiet] for the excellent services rendered the club.

Election of Officers.—The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. A. Hatrick; vice-patrons, Dr. P .-Marshall,.''Major Lomax, Messrs J. Ihain, C.<L. Duigan. G. Marshall, W. G. Herd, H. V. Hammond, C. H. Burnett, H. Hooker, J. Foster W R luck, G N. Baggett, and J. Blair; president, Captain J. G. Swan: deputypresident, Lieut. A. P. Andersori: hdn secretary and treasurer. Mr H V Duigan- handicapper Mr. C. Kruse: range officer, Lieut. G. Marshall; committee Messrs W. Churton, G. Purser, E GloVei> £? l(5, cimy' C- Xr «se, G; Marshall and W., Tate, senr. Working Bees.—lt was decided that workmg bees should be formed to carry out some necessary improvements to the range before the opening day New Members.—The* following new members were elected': Messrs P. Bailey, Shaw, and Andrews (active), and C Kruse and Lieut. Brinsley (honorary). \

Resignation.—The 'resignation of Rifleman Claude Suisted, who is leaving Wanganui to take up a position with Messrs Hellaby and Co.. of Auckland, was accepted with regret. Opening of the Season.—lt was decided to open the season on Labour Bay the 22nd inst. Captain Swan and Lieut. Marshall were appointed a sub-committee to arrange a smoke concert on^t/ie night of the opening day, when the trophies won. during the" past season will be presented. Late Arrivals.—The question whether men. who arrive late should be allowed to shoot was left to the range officer to deal with.
