The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Centre of the above was held on Friday afternoon in Trinity Church parlour. Mrs. Upton presiding. There was a large attendance, and two new members were elected.

Regret was expressed at the departure from Wangauni of Mrs Heatley and Mrs Tremlew, two active ■ workers, whose places will be hard to fill. Mrs Matthews (the pianist for the meeting) was also present for the last time beiore her departure from Wanganui. Mrs Upton read a, letter from Mrs. Nimmo acknowledging the parcel of warm clothing for mine-sweepers. The parcel contained 1 scarf, 3 chest protectors, 3 balaclavas, 1 belt, 9 pairs underpants, 5 singlets, 1 guernsey, 16 parrs mittens, 22 pairs of hand-knitted socks.

Mesdames McKinnon and Smith were appointed conveners of the doll stall m connection with Red Cross effort. The Wanganui East and "V's" wrote very kindly offering their services. The Union is hoping to raise a goodly sum for Red Cross work at the next Agricultural Show. A gift of two nicelydressed dolls was received during the afternoon. Mrs Upton kindly offered to receive any donations towards the doll stall at her shop. ■ Ilj w^ reported that the " White Ribbon" Day, held every Thursday, is still doing excellent work, and new workers are always welcomed. From June to September the workers have made 65 pyjama suits, 6 shirts, 97 pillow slips, JLOS sheets, 22 iace cloths, .8 dozen towels, badged 8 pairs of blankets, 59 shirts at the St. John Ambulance Red Cross Rooms, His Majesty's .Buildings.

During the past month the Union have had with tiiem Miss Powell (Dominion, organiser), who has done good work in Wanganui. In connection with the Central Union she held one home meeting at the residence of Mrs Henry Collier, St. John's Hill. She spoke on the foundation and organisation of W.C.T.U. work. Six members and five White Ribbon subscribers were the result of the afternoon gathering. At the monthly meeting Mrs Siddells read a paper by Miss -M. Morrison on "Woman's Influence at Home and Abroad." It contained many excellent points and uplifting thoughts in regard to woman's life in general, and was much appreciated. The meeting was closed with the Doxology.
