CASTLECLIFF TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING

At the monthly meeting of the Castleclifr" Town Board the following were present: Comrs. C. M. Cresswell (in the chair), R. Dunkley, F. G.'Newcombe, R. Brown, and 0. McKenzie. The Chairman welcomed Cmrs. Brown and McKenzie to the Board table. Accretions. —A letter was received from Messrs Armstrong and Craig, stating that the Grown Law Office had decided that the accretions at Castlecliff were Crown lands. The matter has been placed ■ before the Band Board with'a -view to vesting the accretions in the Castleclifr Town Board for recreation purposes. Wai* Loan.—The Minister of Finance wrote5 thanking the Board for its support in connection with raising the recent War Loan.

Remission of Rates.—The clerk was instructed to inform Mr. J. J. McCartney that the Board had no power to remit the rates on his property, despite the fact-that his house had been burned down. Road Work.—lt was resolved that the foreman be empowered to engage, an extra horse and dray for- road work' and metalling, as necessity arises. Hall-Letting.—lt was decided that tho charge for' letting the hall after II p.m. should be at the rate of 2s. per hour. No charge wili.be made for children's parties and patriotic- entertainments. , ,

Cutting of Lupins.—A resolutionWs passed 'to. the-effect that permission be obtained from the Harbour Board to remove lupins which had been cut by boys. It was also resolved to write to the parents of the boys' pointing out the destruction which had boen. done, and also stating that the Board would not permit a fire to be made of the lupins

The' Board's foreman (Mr T. Milton) reported as follows: Lupins had been placed on the sea front to prevent sand drift, and those round the town belt had been trimmed up. The footpaths in Rangiwia Street have been cleaned up. The formation of claying and gravelling the footpath in Maifcai St, cost £13. During the month a considerable amount of metal was stripped at the gravel pit, ready for repair work.
