WANGANUI EAST SALE.
Jhe New Zealand, Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd., Wanganui, re. port as follows:—On Wednesday 10th October, we held cur first sale in Messrs •Ualgety and Coy.'s Wanganui Easi Yards. Before the sale commenced the manager, Mr Joan Stevenson, made a tew remarks to the public, who were piesent in good numbers, stating that the company had arranged to hold fortnightly sales from to-day, and that they had acquired an interest in Messrs Dalgety and Coy. a yards. He trusted that by strict attention to business the company hoped vo receive a fair share of support, and that the fact of the two companies stlling in the- same yards would no doubt lead to large catalogues, thereby attracting buyers from up and down the coast, as well as local operators. This would cause keener competition and better prices. He then formally introduced the company's auctioneers, Messrs Cooper and Williams,., and intimaited that Mr Cooper would conduct the sale to-day. In the absence of Mr Herdman, manager for Dalgety and Coy., Mr Lees, auctioneer, spoke a few words of welcome to Mr Cooper, and expressed his confidence in the two firms working n harmony.
A good yarding of both sheep and cattle met with keen competition, with the exception of grown bullocks, which failed to reach owners' ideas of value. For aheep and all other cattle we report a total clearance. Prices were as follow: —3-year steers (small) £11 18s, 2-year steers £10 15s, cows and calves (bad colours) £9 9s, yearling heifers (small) £4 6s to £6 Is, yearling heifers (good) £6 7s to £7 6s, heifers with calves £7 17s 6d, woolly hoggets.27s 3d to 345, wethers* 365, shorn hoggets (good) 30s'3d.
