Sir James Carrel left Wanganui on Saturday by motor car. He caught the train at Marton and proceeded to Napier, 'catching the steamer there for Gisborn©- "
Mr. John Talbqt, who has been associated, with practically every local body in South Canterbury was presented with. an illuminated address at. Timaru on Saturday. This presentation was made ■T>y public men, farmers and business •people, who also presented him with a silver salver and a tea set.^ Theer pasesd away at his residence, Dalziell Road, Eltham, on Saturday morning, an old settler in the person of Mt. John Treweek, aged 78 years. JMr Treweek landed at New Plymouth by the ship Timandia on February 24, 1842, and settled in New Plymouth. He was one of 212 passengers by the •same vessel. After residing in New Plymouth for two- years, he went with his people to Canterbury and Otago for a few years, but later returned to Taranaki, and had been there continu■oufil yfor 48 years. When he first arxuved in New Plymouth that town consisted of four wholesale and retail ea- £ iabEshments, two hotels and 120 raupo cob huts. The death occurred at New Plymouth •on Friday of Mr James. R. Sinclair, at ""the home of his parents in Vogeltown, -at the age of 23 years. The late Mr Sinclair (the Taranaki News states) was -one of "lie most popular boys of the New Plymouth High School, possibly its -finest athlete and a brilliant scholar. The promise of his boyhood was in a great measure fulfilled during his subsequent medical studies at the Glasgow when his career sustained a most unfortunate interruption by an accident on the football field resulting in the loss of his leg. He returned to New Plymouth a yearor two ago, and was appointed a relieving assistant master at hjs old school, besides which he was an •instructor at the Technical College. Despite his infirmity, he was an enthusiastic golfer, and-wherever he went his bright *md sunny and unassuming disposition made him.hosts of friends. There will he general sympathy with his relations..
