Mr. Fred Wells, of Marlborough, \> ?n was obliged to give up owing to an n«cident to his tyre when competing in the circular road race round Mt. Egmont, came to Wanganui on his \va\ south. Mr. Wells has bad a most successful career as a cyclist, winning ovents over 80, 35, and 30 miles in the South Island. He went over to Australia some years ago. and won several big races. On returning home he won the New Zealand championships for one, three, and five miles, and went to America about four years ago. Thorn he established world's record-, for I.) and 5 miles (unpaccd) at Now York. On his return to Australia this year he captured the Druids' Gold Plate nt Melbourne, nutting up an Australian record and won at Ballarat all the events in which bo started. He considers that the Taranaki circular road ra^o has a great future, and is coming to he regarded as one of the best races m Australasia. The fact that so many Australians come over proves this fact. It is believed that more will come over next ye<u\ He was pleased with tno Taranaki roads over -which be travelled.
