Looking through the pedigree of Gravitation, it will be seen that the highest caste of racing blood predominates. Birkenhead, his sire, was bred in England, being by Orme, his dam Tragedy, by Ben Battle. Stepfeldt is a full sister to Shee and Stepniak (New Zealand's leading sire) all of them being by Nordenfeldt. Stepfeldt herself is the dam of such brilliant performers as Elevation, Provocation and Gravitation.
