GORE, April 28

At seven minutes past five p.m. today the electric light was turned on after an absence of over four weeks, due to the damage to the .generator at Matauro. by the flood. Continuous work was necessary to do this, and much credit is due to the staff at Mataura and the local borough electrical engineer and staff.

The "Ensign" has compiled a list of houses and business premises and factories inundated on March 29th, showing 405 private dwellings, and 172 business premises, churches, etc., from a total approximately of 700 habitable buildings in the borough
