BIBLE IN SCHOOLS SCHEME.

UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSED BY CHRIST CHURCH PARISHION-

ERS

Referring to the Bible in Schools question at the annual meeting of Christ Church parishioners on Monday night, the vicar,, the Rev. Herbert Reeve, hoped that the meeting would carry unanimously a resolution he proposed to submit. He said that a considerable amount of misunderstanding existed in respect of the working of the Australian scheme. A book, he said, was compiled of extracts taken from the Bible and read in the schools. The teacher would not have to teach the children. The proposed Bill will provide that ministers of each denomination will attend the school during school hours and teach their own children. The scheme had worked well in "Australia. Ho hoped that Bible teaching would .-become'the normal part of the child's training, and not thw abnormal part, as it was at present.. Several parishioners spoke in favour of the scheme, and one gentleman, a Sunday school teacher of 14 years' experience, said that it * was surprising the ignorance of a great number of Sunday school children on Biblical mattQTS. -

Mr. Reeve moved- and it was unanimously carried:—"That in accordance with the decisions of the General and Diocesan Synods this annual -meeting of parishioners of the Parish of Christ. Church, Warigianui. Diocese of Wellington, pledges itself to support the obiective of the Bible in State Schools League, and requests that a. referendum of-the whole jjeonle of'the Dominion^be taken tojdecide this" question. .This meeting further c^lls upon every ' parishioner 'to show--'his Or her mdi"- --" Vidual adherence by :-—(1) Earnest prayer for. -God's blessing on the movement; (2) signing the card of membership; (3) active work in inducing others To sign the cards-of membership -, (4) contributing some donation however small, to tho Campaign Fund."
