Mr. Alfred A. Brown, the new organist \nd choirmaster for St. Paul's, arrived m Wanganui on Thursday, and he will preside at the orsran for the first time to-morrow.

iMiss M. A. Newcombe, who has been on a business-combined-with-pleasure trip to England and the Continent for somo considerable time past, arrived back again in Wanganui yesterday.

Venerable- Archdeacon Stocker, who lias been Vicar of St. John's Church in lnyercargill for thirty years, and is now retiring, was met yesterday afternoon by a large gathering of citizens and presented with r» purse containing 235 soys. Speeches of the most complimentary nature regarding the Archdeacon's public service to Invercargili were made by the Mayor (Mr. Scandrett), Colonel Henderson (representing the military), Mr. J. E. Watson (representing the citizens), and also by representatives of the clergy and various societies with which the Archdeacon was connected. The presentation is said to bo the most substantial yet made here, and subscriptions were received without a single personal application by way of canvass being made.—Press Association.
