Although there has not l>ecn a great deal of local rain at Palmerston, it would pcem as if there has been a deluge in tho back country, and this is evident by tho heavy supply tho Manawatu River is carrying. I understand that quite a number of sawmills in the district are affected, and that many have been obliged to close down temporarily owing to the swamps being under water.
