fho AVanganui Board of Education has received word that tho Department has mado a grant for a school <at Hinau

On Monday, 28th inst., Labour Day, tho letter carriers will make one delivery of correspondence only, leaving the Chief Post Office at 7 a.m.

It has been decided to close the Technical College on Monday (Labour Day) for both day and evening classes. Railway arrangements in connection with tho Palmerston North Show are advertised in another column. Tha Castlecliff Railway Company's Sunday trains will run as usual to-mor-row. Trains leave Wanganui at 2-25 p.m., 3-5 p.m., and 5-5 p.m., and leave Castlecliff at 1-45 p.m., 2-45 and 4-45 p.m. Cheap fares are now in force. Cadets will observe that the parade to meet the New Zealand Cadets returning from Canada is postponed till next Saturday, 2nd November, and that tho Church Parade for Sunday is also postponed till tho following Sunday, 3rd November. Monday, Labour Day, will be practic- ' ally a public holiday as far as Wanganui is concerned. The shops will be closed for the day. The principal events at which to celebrate the holiday are the Labour Day sports on Cook's Gardens, and the Waverley-Waitotara Racing Club's meeting. An anonymous donor has sent the Rev. Askew, Vicar of St. Mark's (Wellington) £200 in bank-notes to be allocated to various parochial and diocesan objects, the principal of which are £40 each to bo taken towards the stipend of tho curate for India and for China, and £30 for the sister attached to the parish mission. A ocuple of days ago we mentioned tho names of two Marton pupils, who had succeeded in the art needlework competition held at-the Hawke's Bay Show. From further inquiries wo have ascertained that eight entries were made by. pupils in the Wanganui Board of Education district, and seven awards wero gained. This big achievement is highly creditable to Mrs. Watkin, the instructress. Tho programme to be rendered by tho City Band at the Labour Day Sports next Monday is a very attractive one, comprising the popular descriptive selections, "Harvest Home," "Sailors' Life," "010 Kentucky," and "The Motor Ride;" the. overtures "Raymond," md "Lo Diademe;" "Dollar Princess" and "Over tho AVaves;" marches^ "Sailor King," "lnvercargill," "Union Jack," and ''Picador." The cornet solo "The Nightingale" will also be played. Tha Gonville loop service will be suspended on Monday (Labour Day). Cars will leave Post Office at 7-3 a.m. for Castlecliff, and every 20 minutes after until 10-23 p.m. The first car will run via Koromiko Road, second via Alma Road, and alternately after. Cars will leavo Castlecliff at 7-35 a.m. for Post Offioo via, Alma Road, and every 20 minutes after alternate routes until u)----53 p.m. If wet, tho ordinary time-tablo will bo adhered to.
