Preparations are being made for the Christmas season, however, for over one ("inured head of cattle have been landed at Picton during the past few days to tho order of Blenheim butchers. The beasts came from the VVanganui district, and considering the time of tho year, are in good condition. The price for mutton is also high, good wethers bringing from 25s to 30s a, head. Owing to this, the butchers of both Seddon and Flaxbourne are intending to close down. This state of things will probably last for a month or six weeks, when the fat dry ewes will begin to come in.
